What is the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society Foundation?
The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation and educational trust incorporated in 1991 under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
The Foundation has no members - only a board of directors who are not compensated for their services. We work closely with the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society (IRES) – an organization composed primarily of insurance regulators - to sponsor educational programs, training schools and seminars.
What is the Foundation's mission?
Our mission is to assist in the development of educational and training opportunities for professional insurance regulators as well as educating the private sector about state insurance regulation.
What past educational programs has the Foundation sponsored?
Our work ultimately benefits all those involved or affected by insurance regulation. Some of our prior efforts include:
- Sponsorship of an annual national school on market regulation which brings state insurance regulators together with industry representation to review the latest issues governing market conduct regulation.
- Funding for the design and startup of an intensive, market regulation training school for insurance regulators.
- Provided scholarships to state regulators for educational seminars and schools.
- Provided funding for a continuing education training and designation program (AIE, CIE) for insurance regulators.
Why is the Foundation creating an endowment fund and how will funds be used?
We have traditionally raised most of our funds from our annual market conduct school. However, the receipts from the school are insufficient to fund current regulator
education and training needs. In addition, we want to expand our existing education efforts. The annual
investment income from the endowment fund will be used to finance future regulator needs including:
- Updating existing insurance regulator training curriculums.
- Developing a new regulator training curriculum that will include a market analysis program that promotes uniformity.
- Providing additional educational scholarships to regulators to help offset state budget cutbacks.
- Establishing an educational program coordinator exclusively for use by IRES and the Foundation.
- Assisting newly developed state chapters of IRES with their education and training needs.
Our goal is to improve the regulatory process through education, and we believe this can be accomplished with your support.
